Fall 2005 & Winter 2006 Events

Friday, October 28th, 12:00pm - 3:00pm
Our academic year is beginning with a flurry of activity. There will be an Ethnographic Film Festival entitled “Eye on the Community: Ethnographic Film at UCSD” featuring videos by Soc. G/227 graduates on Friday, October 28 from 12:00 - 3:00 in the UCSD Cross Cultural Center.

November 4th & November 5th
The AAASRP concert and lecture series will begin on November 4 with a dance workshop and discussion session with the Senegalese dance troupe Jant-Bi in the Mandeville Recital Hall. We will also make a block of tickets in front row areas available to AAASRP Board Members at an excellent price for Jant-Bi’s November 5 concert in the Mandeville auditorium at 8:00 p.m. Tickets are in limited supply, so please let me or Board Member Lea Marie Ruiz-Ade know if you will be attending as soon as possible.

Friday, January 13th & January 20th
In January, AAASRP’s celebration of the Josephine Baker centennial year will begin on Friday January 13 from 4:00 to 6:00 with the opening of the BakerStyle West Josephine Baker Art Exhibit in the Geisel Library. Mocktails will be served at the Geisel Library’s Chez Joséphine Café. On Friday, January 20 at 4:00, we will screen Josephine Baker’s short film “The Fireman of the Folies-Bergère” (8 minutes) and “Zouzou” (feature length, 58 minutes) in the Seuss Room of the Geisel Library. Friday, February 24th, 6:30pm - 9:00pm
On Friday, February 24, as part of Black History Month, AAASRP will be co-sponsoring Perú Negro, an Afro-Peruvian ensemble. We are organizing a concert and reception with Perú Negro in the UCSD Faculty Club on February 24 from 6:30 - 9:00. Their main concert will take place at the Mandeville auditorium on Sunday, February 26 at 8:00 p.m. AAASRP will also purchase a block of tickets for this concert.
