Office for Students with Disabilities (OSD) Accommodation Information

Students seeking accommodations must visit and register quarterly with the Office for Students with Disabilities (OSD). Only students who have been issued an Authorization for Accommodation (AFA) by the OSD are eligible for accommodation.

For OSD accommodations with Sociology courses, you will primarily work with your instructor on any items listed under “classroom accommodations”. For “exam accommodations” please work with the following to coordinate accommodations:

  • Remote Course- For remote courses, please coordinate exam accommodations with instructors.
  • In person Course- Please coordinate exam accommodations with Triton Testing Center (TTC).

We recommend OSD students to reach out to your instructor prior once OSD accommodations are established (via email, schedule a Zoom meeting, etc.) to ensure you are able to coordinate your OSD accommodations with them.

Steps on receiving OSD Accommodations are outlined below:

Step 1: Request Accommodations with OSD

  • Meet with an officer at Office for Students with Disabilities (OSD) as soon as course registration occurs each quarter to receive an Authorization for Accommodation (AFA) Letter.
  • Please refer to the OSD Website for further information.

Step 2: AFA Letter for Instructor and Sociology OSD Liaison

Once OSD accommodations are confirmed by the OSD office, student's AFA letters will be created and sent to instructors and OSD Liasions.Only accommodations that are listed in an Authorization for Accommodation (AFA) Letter will be provided.

Overview of Electronic AFA Letter process:

  • OSD will email your electronic AFA letters to your instructor(s) and OSD Liaisons.
  • The emailed electronic AFA letter verifies receipt of your OSD accommodations to both the instructor and Sociology OSD Liaison.
  • If you are unsure whether an electronic AFA Letter has been sent, please check receipt of your AFA letter from no-reply@osd.ucsd.edu in your UCSD email.

Step 3: Coordinating Accommodations with your Instructor or Sociology OSD Liaison

For OSD accommodations with Sociology courses, you will primarily work with your instructor on any items listed under “classroom accommodations”. For “exam accommodations” please work with the following to coordinate accommodations:

  • Remote Course- Please coordinate exam accommodations with instructors of the course.
  • In person Course- Please coordinate exam accommodations with Department Liaisons.

We recommend OSD students to reach out to your instructor prior once OSD accommodations are established (via email, schedule a Zoom meeting, etc.) to ensure you are able to coordinate your OSD accommodations with them.

  • When to Coordinate Accommodations:

    • Students are recommended to reach out to the instructors of their courses in which an AFA letter is sent as soon as possible to coordinate accommodations.
    • We recommend doing this even if a student does not think they will use their accommodations, or if they expect to use their accommodations infrequently in a quarter
    • If you will be requesting exam accommodations for a course, reach out to your instructor/ OSD Liaisons minimally 5 business days to two weeks prior to the scheduled exam date. Keep in mind that some online exam formats may already comply with a students OSD exam accommodations
  • How to Set up Classroom or Exam Accommodations:

    • Please send Classroom Accommodation requests directly to your instructors so that they may coordinate times and relevant processes with you about your accommodations.

TRITON TESTING CENTER (TTC)

The Triton Testing Center (TTC) exists to provide secure and integrous paper-based testing services to any student who needs to take their tests outside the time and space constraints of the classroom.

We are able to assist with accommodated testing, make-up testing, and in other situations where a student needs to test outside of your classroom but within a proctored setting.

To get started, visit the Triton Testing Center website for step-by-step instructions.

 Important Deadlines:

  • Initial submission of testing dates/times: End of Week 2 of the current term.
  • Last possible submission of testing dates/times: 5 business days prior to testing day
  • Submission of the actual test file: at least 1 business day prior to testing day

Please note that students must schedule a time to take your test with us at least 3 days in advance. By submitting your testing dates and times to us early in the quarter, you provide ample time for your students to schedule your tests.

PROCTOR POOL

The Proctor Pool is designed to supplement your instructional team in proctoring in-class tests if, for example, you need 1 or 2 extra proctors to reach a 1:50 proctor-to-student ratio or you have a department-provided Instructional Assistant who can’t proctor due to illness, travel or other conflicts.

We recommend submitting your Proctor Pool requests as soon as you are aware of the need – https://forms.office.com/r/3XrPptheR6. We will always do our best to find proctors to help you with your tests!

We understand that navigating new services can present some challenges. If you run into any issues, would like someone to walk you through RegisterBlast (our scheduling software) step-by-step, or you would like a physical tour of the Triton Testing Center, we’re happy to help!

There are three ways you can get in touch:

  • Email us at tritontesting@ucsd.edu and we’ll respond within 1-2 business days
  • Drop into our Virtual Front Desk, Monday-Friday 8 am – 4 pm
  • Visit us in-person in Pepper Canyon Hall Suite 364.
    • During Weeks 1 & 2,  TTC management will be available to assist you Monday-Friday between 8:00 am – 3:30 pm.
