Profile

I’m interested in how highly trained professionals navigate evaluation and career-making in competitive fields. My research draws on the sociology of work and occupations, gender and inequality, and valuation and evaluation, with a particular focus on how professional standards are embodied and careers are shaped through transnational mobility.

My current project examines how opera singers build artistic careers across transnational institutions and professional networks. I investigate how singers learn to evaluate themselves and others, how standards of professionalism and discipline are formed through embodied practice, and how these standards shape access to recognition and career opportunities.

Expanding on these themes, I also study gendered career mobility among highly trained professionals, particularly women in STEM. I explore how institutions, networks, and cultural expectations shape their opportunities to pursue careers across national borders.
